“the opposite of sin is not virtue but faith” (Kierkegaard)
Sin is so passé
a speck in the eye
irrigated by self interest
we should blame ourselves
wriggling off the hook
with priestly panaceas
burdensome are mea culpas
imagine instead a cloud of irksome flies
fragments of faith
haloing our heads across green pastures
44 words for Yom Kippur and the DVerse Quadrille #18 +cloud
Oh, interesting. It’s a great image.
Ponderings prompted by the moment Sarah
What a perfect poem for Yom Kippur. How clever we are at erasing the discomfort of sin. And look what that’s doing to us! My opinion, anyway.
Thank you for your input Victoria – concur precisely
Stupendous 44 ❤️
This packs a punch, somehow with a gentle hand. Wonderful.
Nice comment – a touch of fist in velvet glove perhaps
I do love how you pull in with that first line… and those irksome flies.. how great is that to illustrate the point we have come to
Irksome because they never leave questions and questionings of faith alone
You have worked within the limit of words so well to bring a thought-provoking poem together.
Thank you Kerry – these restrictions are such good practice
I do agree with Victoria. “irrigated by self interest” yes
Spot on
This calls for a deep reflection of our faith and what it means to us beyond self interest ~
Good time of year to reflect though fasting makes me focus less on soul than body!
Yes, I need to reflect on this. “A cloud of irksome flies” … “fragments of faith” … lovely.
Thank you Beth – must stop by and reflect upon your garden now
This is a powerful quadrille for Yom Kippur, Laura. The opening line is so true – it seems that people no longer think of sin as sin and think up feeble excuses for it, ‘irrigated by self interest’. My favourite image is of the ‘cloud of irksome flies… haloing our heads across green pastures’. The warnings are all there but no one wants to read them.
Marvellous prompt Kim – the cloud of unknowing somehow became a swarm and am heartened by the response to these questions of faith
Interesting
much love…
You understand these issues Gillena ❤
Interesting take on this prompt, and I mean that in a good way. Very thought provoking. Well done.
glad you were provoked 😉
its almost mysterious!
nice definition of sin.
well said – faith is indeed mysterious
Ha! I like your wicked wit.
some wit perhaps but surely not wicked
