Two veiled inquisitives visiting the venial
naturally we dissembled
it is unseemly to go naked this side of Eden
and being strangers even to ourselves
we constantly covered up at twilight
armoured as a pangolin
that sly secrecy of intrigue on fixed faces
and eyes peering through the owl and peacock masks
saw nothing but shadow play
Covering up for Mish’s Poetics: Mask
I really liked this. Charming. Good wordplay, too.
thank you –
I admire the alliteration and wordplay in this poem…..and love the thought of those owl and peacock masks.
animal masks liberating the spirit perhaps?!
Good point about nakedness this side of Eden.
even with fig trees
Being strangers even to ourselves… yes I think that’s the most common kind of mask
I think there is only one basic bland mask with expressive ones on top
Unique imagery…especially enjoyed ….”we constantly covered up at twilight
armoured as a pangolin”.
