'Write about frustration'
nothing is simpler and so the words fail
thoughts are thwarted
an opening hangs in the void for days
my mouth agape
face to face with that most familiar of spectres
the fur of a black cat raised against a ghost
futile as a furled fist
I could go quietly bitter in a dying light
take arsenic or ignite the sisters of fate
but it's all far too particular for that
mundane even
merely a need for utterance, some real words
a spell of poesy to nail frustration
here where conceptions are crucified
perhaps I should have opted for the heartbreak theme
- nothing is more familiar

Nice line with all the alliteration: “futile as a furled fist” Against a ghost a fist is futile. Frustration sometimes leads to heartbreak.

I like the idea of frustration as a familiar spectre, I have one sitting at my shoulder as I type! The lines that stand out for me are:

The thing is Laura, whatever I read of your work, it gives the impression of tearing out of your imagination, a starburst of images and ideas. Your facility with language ever astonishes me – breadth of vocabulary, originality of word association. Goodness – and this is frustration 🙂 🙂 🙂
