'Write about frustration'
nothing is simpler and so the words fail
thoughts are thwarted
an opening hangs in the void for days
my mouth agape
face to face with that most familiar of spectres
the fur of a black cat raised against a ghost
futile as a furled fist
I could go quietly bitter in a dying light
take arsenic or ignite the sisters of fate
but it's all far too particular for that
mundane even
merely a need for utterance, some real words
a spell of poesy to nail frustration
here where conceptions are crucified
perhaps I should have opted for the heartbreak theme
- nothing is more familiar
Too long in the writing and so too late for Frank’s ‘Frustration and Heartbreak‘ prompt but there is always Open Link Night
“A spell of poesy to nail frustration”. What better solution! Words worth waiting for!
what an encouraging comment – thank you Beverly
Nice line with all the alliteration: “futile as a furled fist” Against a ghost a fist is futile. Frustration sometimes leads to heartbreak.
Nice prompt Frank – frustration is not for the faint hearted
Frustration is certainly portrayed in words and tone. Well done.
Thank you – I wrote what I felt – eventually!
Heartbreak would be easier but it really depends if you find the words. Sometimes what may seem easy to write about is challenging! Thanks for sharing at dVerse!
Finding the words can be so frustrating
I really like your ending lines. Sad but familiar is heartbreak.
ah yes and jsut as hard to write about without becoming maudlin – thanks for your words Ali
I like the idea of frustration as a familiar spectre, I have one sitting at my shoulder as I type! The lines that stand out for me are:
‘I could go quietly bitter in a dying light
take arsenic or ignite the sisters of fate
but it’s all far too particular for that
mundane even’.
flick it off quickly Kim! – it is there to steal your words before you can even type them.
Many thanks for your appreciation
Your eloquent words speak of frustration from beginning to end – so well done Laura.
Anna :o]
glad it came through Anna – it certainly took time to come through from wherever inspiration resides!
The thing is Laura, whatever I read of your work, it gives the impression of tearing out of your imagination, a starburst of images and ideas. Your facility with language ever astonishes me – breadth of vocabulary, originality of word association. Goodness – and this is frustration 🙂 🙂 🙂
I could eat your words Tish to feed me at all the times that there is no starburst – sometimes we need high praise and I value your constant encouragement – thank you indeed and word!
Credit where credit is due 🙂
Oh that last line.. really made the frustration even stronger
yes another frustrating topic
Beautifully done!
Thank you Charley
You are most welcome!
