‘scaping the city

On a cold evening this week, just before sundown, I was passing the above iconic view of the architecture, new and old, along the Thames and so Patti’s Lens Artist Challenge: Cityscapes makes for an appropriate post.

London is my city – but what do we mean by the term: ‘Cityscape’? As equivalent to landscape it can be inferred as the wide open view.

East London

But these panoramas we tend to only see from the river Thames, from east to west

Westward and London upriver

And besides a Cityscape is much more than skylines. Rather: ” Within the context of art, Cityscapes reflect various aspects… including buildings, urban parks, city skylines, and city streets. ” Art History

And so over the next couple of weeks or so I shall be photographing London from all these angles, from the perspective of one who is leaving it for good. In short I am ‘Scaping the city’.

And I hope to be going off into the sunset – euphemistically speaking

  1. Your layout selections are perfect; a sandwich of color. I look forward to your shots – never been to your city. Sorry to hear you are leaving it. Hope the choices make your heart happy, Laura!

    1. glad you liked the sandwich – the advice normally is not to put the two modes together but I am always in two minds!
thank you for your good wishes too Jilly – it a decision I must make for many of the reasons you know of and I think I am heading in the right direction

      1. I like your two minds and artistic inclinations. Re the new path – just imagine all the new things to shoot and write about!

  2. Thus, I suppose, you will be ‘Escaping’ the city. I like your shots today. I find myself a city dweller at present and escape into the flower and nature world as much as possible.

    1. yes enormous changes Diana – both challenging and exciting and a little frightening

going from metropolis to small town
      from south to northerly
but there is a garden, albeit not mine to own, so more plant posts on the horizon
and the clue is not far from here

  3. Your photos are always a joy to mull. I haven’t been around much, so I’ve missed much. I’ll try to catch up. You have a great eye. You also have a great voice as a poet. Cheers and safe travel.

  4. I love London, and your shots feel good. The Shard is surely a more beautiful view from your spot than from mine…and the last photo is a gem. The light and atmosphere..Wishing you the best of luck with your move!

  5. Hi, Laura. I am glad the challenge gives you another way to capture London before you move. Your shot of Farrington Road is my favorite! I love how you captured the essence of the city there. I hope it’s a great change for you and it gives you much happiness.
