Seeing Red

There is so much more to ‘red’ than meets the eye. Just look around! So for Debbi’s challenge I am offering a bit more than just the one word Sunday: Red

“If one could only catch that true color of nature – the very thought of it drives me mad.” – Andrew Wyeth
“The more an object is polished or brilliant, the less you see its own color and the more it becomes a mirror reflecting the color of its surroundings.” – Eugene Delacroix :
“If one says ‘red’ – the name of color – and there are fifty people listening, it can be expected that there will be fifty reds in their minds. And one can be sure that all these reds will be very different.” – Josef Albers
“In nature, light creates the color. In the picture, color creates the light.” – Hans Hofmann
Everything that you can see in the world around you presents itself to your eyes only as an arrangement of patches of different colors.” – John Ruskin

  1. I thought the lido sign was the one at Margate – hadn’t realised there were others out there. Some great reds – many thanks!

  2. Oh, I do love this study, Laura! Your images are wonderfully done (I especially like the last one), and the quotes work well.

    1. thank you Charley – am a bit of a quoteaholic (different surely from quotaholic) and find gallery posts an ideal way to slip them in. Their succinctness makes them more readily remembered and I especially found the Hoffman quote pertinent to how I am trying to train my photographic eye

  3. How did I miss these?! Red, the color of passion, but these shots soothe. I sigh at their beauty. A sucker for the flower shots, but I am taken with the lighting of that apple and the motion at the end. Good job of ordering them!

    1. Jilly, your enjoyment speaks volumes ❤ and your observation of the order made me look again and see how the first and last are well paired – one prohibits movement and the other personifies it!
