Yellowing

Always it seems sudden
the appearance of Spring bowls me over
a welcoming dog in turn welcome
as a long-looked-for lover, fixed
in a colour cast of primrose
arms wide enough for both
sweep aside the dead winter dust
heaving sighs and yet still seeking
- one weather eye out on the horizon
and two revenant riders
already yellowing along the sand

Selecting bowl, primrose, dust from Sanaa’s word list for her Get Listed: Late March edition

  1. Whoooosh ❤️ This is incredibly lyrical in its wordplay, Laura 😀 I was blown away by; “as a long-looked-for lover, fixed in a colour cast of primrose arms wide enough for both.” Exquisite, exquisite work! Thank you so much for writing to the prompt. ❤️

  2. Your poem is a bright celebration, a welcoming of spring. I just feel happier from reading it.

One craves for the colors of spring-time and when it comes it is all too sudden. Very true Laura. We just want it fast

  4. Spring always bowls me over too, as if it has never happened before.

  5. First of all, that artwork is really cool. And the euphoria we feel when spring is finally here … yet your poem alludes to (or so it seems to me) a not quite settling in – a questioning or a not as content as we should be – once spring has arrived. We need to just learn to enjoy the day, the moment.

    1. your observations are astute Margaret – the poem touches on that grit of discontent that mars even the best of moments – in this case summer is already beckoning
p.s. thank you for your appreciation of the artwork – am exploring photoshop!
