“My mind has thunderstorms,
That brood for heavy hours:
Until they rain me words…”
Words come like curds
conglomerates in a wasteful wash of whey
after the rupture, the heavy humid hiatus
when the glass turns stormy
and cumulus accumulations ascend
dark majestic towers
electric lit and sonorous
then up and out of the aqueous
milky globules coagulate, float their way
in fat, fetid, ferments
these I sieve and consume, write milksop lines
and heat until the page is visible

A tour de forces naturels, methinks. Marvellous, Laura.
thank you Tish – it came by way of the Davies poem, a walk and making kefir – in such guises does the Muse move
Oh I do love the alliteration here… it just rolls of my tongue while reading… (not curds at all)
thunder rolls 😉 thanks Bjorn
This is absolutely exquisite, Laura! ❤️ I love the use of language and alliteration in this 😀 the way you address the thunderstorm as “dark majestic towers electric lit and sonorous.” Woww!❤️
Ahh as cloud lover cannot resist a thunderhead – thanks for your appreciation too
I was hooked with that first fab line. Thoroughly enjoyable read.
Many thanks Misky – have just discovered & followed your food blog – what talent!
Thanks. ☺️
I can tell you are a cloud lover! The alliteration rolls off the tongue in this.
ah thanks you – I enjoyed writing this – one of my less worked poems
I love this, all those alliterations, and the thick curds of clouds. Almost oppressively visual.
can be oppressive in the pre-poetry cloudsphere – waiting for rain, for the curds to come out of the whey 😉
Really like the words and the visuals it brings me!
thanks Kiki – the visuals are important to me so happy that you could see them too!
Love the tension, action and dramatic tone, until it all goes down on the page. This is a fabulous share Laura. Enjoy your summer.
yes we need heat to see invisible milk written lines appear – cooking up a storm is sometimes what I need to write – thank you by the way for your help and info with poetics – see you after the break x
Love the analogy of the storm as the pondering and then outpouring of words! Some great alliteration in this!
many thanks Bryan -good to see you back
I love the image of sifting through the words with a sieve. That picture will stay with me! (K)
thanks K – keep sifting
Love the alliteration, and you hit a soft spot I have for thunderstorms. I do so love the rain.
“I love the rain – it washes memories off the sidewalk of life.” Play It Again Sam –

Thanks for sharing this fine piece! Excellent write. See you in a couple weeks Laura. In honor of Solli Raphael: A Smidgen of Thought
enjoy the break Rob or will your Muse keep you amused in the meantime?
I enjoyed the milkiness of your poem, Laura, which is emphasised by the rhyme and alliteration. The metaphor is really effective, especially ‘Words come like curds’ and ‘cumulus accumulations’. My favourite image is:
‘milky globules coagulate, float their way
in fat, fetid, ferments’.
thank you for your appreciation Kim – I always think of milk in thunderstorms – evidently a before fridges kind of poem
elemental alchemy if there ever was. whatever it takes!
the Muse needs a good kick start often
Coming from a place where I’m waiting for both words and water to rain down on me, this resonated. I’m glad I found this poem.
May it rain then but not on your parade
From title to end this was a lovely write. I really your word choices and unique imagery!
fabulous feedback Mish – thank you
