‘And quiet flows the Don’

New Year’s day and the over publicised ‘beast from the east’ just brought crisp blue skies to Yorkshire and the canalised river Don – in Yorkshire. No doubt it is much more cold and beastly along the novel’s titular Don that flows south of Moscow to the Black Sea. [I read this epic many years ago on warm bus journeys going to Birmingham but that is another story]

Meanwhile I am back in London and bringing good wishes for the New Year.

For UK Weather watchers:
Is there another Beast from the East on the way?
