Spot the Difference

After last week’s ‘happy arachnoid accident‘ and the discovery of some digital geometrics, I’ve been exploring further and having more fun with the zenbrush3 App. Initially I sliced one design as a long, narrow rectangular shape. Copying the slice and rotating it as a mirror image, made for some simple designs, further elaborated with more overlays. All are satisfyingly congruent:

two distinct plane figures on a piece of paper are congruent if they can be cut out and then matched up completely. Turning the paper over is permitted.

I am drawn to the sense of calm such orderliness emits in its congruence – yet ultimately it is self-limiting. So what if the image was sliced several times in different places and the the above process repeated?

This would render
                  appearances partial, with a cornball’s
               incongruence…
 the
action
off-center

At first sight, the eye assumes congruence. But then the ‘spot the differences’ realization arises between the two halves to demand much more gazing, more seeking attention. The difference are subtle so as per Anselm Berrigan’s poem above, the results might thus be termed ‘In-Betweeners’

I liked the version in contrasting ink strokes and in both orientations
