13 on this 13th

The title sounds something like a bad golfing joke but seemingly I’ve been flying with WordPress for 13 years, as of today. Beginning with stopping smoking and taking myself and camera out into the great outdoors – fresh air and a fresh start.

And the garden and nature were indeed many of my early subjects – I still can’t resist them.

London streets of course were another since I was living there and being central was able to walk and see and do so much. After a while I even took a liking to modern architecture – it was the angles, the geometry of them that appealed then and still does

And London is not so much paved with gold as glass frontages which is irresistible for those both sides of the happening shots (which I nearly got right here but was in too much of a hurry with a train to catch )

and whether outside or behind glass, the human theatre is always there to see for free

“Art resides even in the things with no artistic intention” Hiroshi Sugimoto

– and what a portal for the camera Sugimoto’s quote opens up when the subject matter feels like it is thin on the ground. It reminds me that the camera is not just there to replicate some sort of envisioned reality but is a toy for playing with angles, abstracts blur, ICM etc.

Now AI is opening up so many possibilities, I wonder if the camera will become surplus to requirement. My washing machine just slaves over the laundry but it has a somewhat sinister look about it, as if keeping me in its sights.

The future is a blank slate and whether for poetry or photography, I’m planning to keep on with this blog for the foreseeable time ahead.
