York is a historic town in Yorkshire famous for its Roman walls, Gothic Minster, timber and plaster buildings, winding cobbled streets and Viking history. Our Catholic anti-government rebel, Guy Fawkes, was born and educated here.

I did not bother to photograph York Minster as selfie taking tourists and gowned graduates inundated the facades. However, tucked behind the Minster is the Treasurer’s House. A late 16th century edifice bought by Frank Green in 1890, the grandson of a wealthy industrialist, and transformed into this elaborately decorated town house, ready for the visit of King Edward VII.

York is a labyrinth of side streets and alleyways. each as tantalising as the next and pulling in the curious to wonder just what is round each bend. But like any town, it has kept up with modern times as here in the shopping centre of Coppergate.

And yes it did rain for a couple of hours making these ‘Pride brollies’ even more appropriate especially as seen in monochrome
With time on our hands before the return train, we visited a nearby pub but I should stress that the camera blur was due to low light rather than inebriation. I liked the effect all the same.

Postscript: Its impossible to appreciate York in less than 2 days so I shall return later on in the year and this time with fresh camera batteries that hold their charge!

It looks like a good setting for a mystery. (K)
It is its own mystery setting Kerfe having been settled in AD71 onward!
Lots if secrets among the stones.
oh yes – oh to be a time traveller!
How fabulous it looks in black and white. I did a post about my last visit to York in 2008, but in colour. I should use B&W more often. You have created a wonderful atmosphere here.
thank you Jude – the old batteries in the camera let me down as they do not hold their power any more so I took so few images. I do tend towards B&W quite often and the Ricoh has a few settings for monochrome so I often forget to think colour
❤️
Oh I never knew about the Treasurer’s House as I didn’t walk around the Minster. Shame, but I guess that happens if you don’t read up on the cities you visit or don’t have you as a personal guide 😉.
I had nor read up either Kiki but tend to stumble on things as that is half the fun (the other half is being organized) that would work for both of us!
