This morning the single lily flower in a bud vase collapsed with a beauty that reminded me of more of a Giselle ballet than dying swan. And before the decay went further I took out the Canon for a bit of a photoshoot with a few Lightroom edits to follow.
In moving the vase to a more suitable location, the zen of the petal drape was lost but still…
“Decaying flowers are a subject worthy of closer inspection… The lifeless, non-reflective surfaces allow a lot of play with contrast, saturation, and dramatics that you simply won’t see in succulent, fresh flowers.”
softening or reducing crisp focus can give a more painterly image
“Between using creative lighting — harsh or muted — to toying with texture overlays, the options are endless. “
It’s intriguing how very absorbing is the watching of fading flowers. These are studies are so graceful in demise.
thank you Tish – caught it out of the corner of my eye and was thus struck
So much grace in how you see this. Just beautiful, Laura. Thanks.
thank you Selma – ‘dying with a dying fall’ as Eliot’s Prufrock would say
Beautiful! I’ve always been a fan of photographing decaying flowers; they can be so much more interesting than their shiny versions.
I agree Kiki – its the wabi-sabiness
Wonderful
