I decided that I would not grow Anemone de Caen again as the amount of foliage was disproportionate to the number of blooms. I’ve since discovered they are best sown now for flowering next Spring but I have done this back to front. The few flowers I did have attracted hoverflies in droves – as catnip is to cats, I wonder if the blue pollen is to hoverflies. These were all Marmalades (Episyrphus balteatus) – one of the few that eat pollen.
Just coming in to their own now are the perennial sunflowers – Helianthus laetiflorus. Another flower that pollinators love -so do pollen beetles and possibly earwigs, judging by the torn petals
