12 years and a bit of a bio

There’s no point in fighting the tide. It ebbs. It flows. You ride it.

WordPress once again have reminded me that its another blog anniversary – 12 years today which just goes to show how tenacious I can be especially now I’m not so much flying with them as their epithet goes, but feeling rather frustrated with persistent login/logout and commenting problems, regardless of browser. All that aside, such anniversaries summon the retrospective and hence I’ve opened up the archives for some images which have not seen the light here before.

12 years hence (and many years before) I was living with Martin in London Coincidentally the city is known affectionately as ‘the smoke’ (before air pollution regulations) and it was then and there that in stopping smoking I started a blog – key bashing rather than puffing helped me through the withdrawals.

I’ve been walking about London for the last 30 years, and I find something fresh in it every day. Walter Besant

Thereafter Martin bought me a camera which set me on the photography road so the blog morphed in to show and tell. Then sometime after a friend encouraged me to post some of my budding poetry and eventually I hybridised both interests here as PoetryPix!

Poetry is thoughts that breathe, and words that burn. – Thomas Gray

After Martin died I moved away from all the memories to consider what future I wanted.

“London is a bad habit one hates to lose.”– William Sansom

It was not all that long before those chaotic years of Covid lockdown descended. Despite the restrictions, it suited me that the world was at some kind of a standstill; time to think and consider much on my daily walks. I was getting used to being on my own though thankful for family quite close by. I do however remember how poignant was the sight of this pair of tortoiseshell butterflies on one of those permitted walks.

Ultimately the bond of all companionship, whether in marriage or in friendship, is conversation ~ Oscar Wilde

I rather like my own company so being solitary is something I’ve coped well with. On the other hand, loneliness is the lack of conversation and hence without my talkative companion, there have been notable down times so I moved again to be closer still to family

stepping out of the old ruts will bring new insights ~ Andy Grove

Two years ago, a new home gave me a new garden – a derelict one with the opportunity to plan and design from scratch. So naturally a new blog was required to document all the hard work and changes (my Japanesque garden).

There is a magic in that little world, home; it is a mystic circle that surrounds comforts and virtues never known beyond its hallowed limits.” – Robert Southey

And last year after I committed to practicing Qigong seriously (especially considering I’m rather dilettante when it comes to continuity and dedication) I started another blog (Qi~ways) which has certainly helped make the practice a fixture and to journal my progress.

I follow four dictates: face it, accept it, deal with it, then let it go ~ Sheng-yen

I’m aware that over the last 12 years more and more people have disappeared from the blogosphere – sadly one or two deaths whilst others have given up blogging altogether or opted for the instant, easier ways of social media. Current glitches with commenting is making the whole blog experience even quieter and more isolated so for all fellow bloggers who do stop by and manage to leave comments I thank you very much!
