Nutmeg & Ginger

He’s of the colour of Nutmeg… And of the heat of the ginger. It is a beast for Perseus: he is pure air and fire; and the dull elements of earth and water never appear in him, but only in patient stillness

Henry V ~ Shakespeare

Although captured in monochrome, this horse was indeed the colour of nutmeg – and ginger too! Many hands high with a hairy coat, and making use of the scratching post in the very instant it took me to take the photo.

  1. There is something so ace about a horse in a field, a horse in a field who wants to say hello. I can almost feel his hard ginger nut head!

  2. What a sweet image Laura – and of course The Bard said it beautifully. How fun that you caught him mid-scratch!

    • You are right Marina I will always think of this sweet natured horse by the name of Nutmeg as I pass the field on one of my regular lockdown walks – the field is otherwise home to many alpacas in all sorts of colours including ginger and nutmeg. 😉
