When the drops stop dropping then the storm starts stopping.”

Mizzle: A misty drizzle
The morning after the storm and the floods that broke the internet here! And as the weather warmed, down came the mists, so thick that even by midday the sun failed to break through.

Drizzle: to rain in small light drops:
Hence the camera’s eye was drawn to the immense sparkle of water droplets everywhere so much so that I did not notice, until I reached home, that my coat and walking boots were saturated.

A smirr (or smur in parts of England) is so light it seems like a mist or smoke.
Perhaps that’s why the silence was so profound, that and the solitude, since I was the only walker across these fields, as far as the eye could see

These were shot in jpeg monochrome as I wanted to capture the mood of the moment, rather than doing a RAW conversion later. A mood that gave rise to two poems too(!) – one I’ll be posting later today.

That is an excellent set of images, Laura
thank you John – I struggled with capturing such muted light
October beauty, wonderfully seen.
many thanks Marina – it was worth the wet and the walk – and 2 poems came out of it too
“seen” included the poems too! xoxo
Love these Laura, most especially the smirr one, ethereal. Mono captures mood for me.
a good descriptive word that for the moodiness there – thanks Paul
🙂
Oh Laura, first sight of each, I think, oh I am full to the brim. Then the next proves me wrong. Exquisite on top of exquisite, a waterfall (yes, pun intended). You make me glad I have eyes to see.
I’d write a poem for each, but rest is my rule today. Failing, again. ❤️
A smirk, think I’ll try using that word.
Thanks for all the joy you took from water fall!
Pity spellcheck, don’t yet know “smirr”. It thought it was helping, but no.
Your spellchecker evidently not Scottish and then it’s smur for some of us Englanders
So atmospheric. Monochrome is just right. The close ups are dazzling. (K)
thank you Kerfe especially as I find it hard to bend down close enough and steady enough on creeky limbs these days
I can identify with that!
Plenty of mizzle and drizzle and foggy days here, but smirr is new to me. Great photos, I really should get out on misty days.
its worth the walk Jude in those conditions though today was a heavy damp fog which had no appeal
Sunshine and showers and rainbows here today, which looks like being the norm for the next 10 days.
What a glorious post of moodiness and beauty. Stunning work.
So happy to hear this – thank you Bridgette
