Rescued pup, rehomed in late retirement
Overtly old but with such black Jack* feisty fun
So sad you had to go, so sorry for your pain
I've only your collar keepsake now, and medallion
Engraved with where we lodged together, one year spent

44 words and an acrostic for Kim’s quadrille prompt “Engrave“
Oh Laura, I’m so sorry for the loss of Rosie. We lost our Jack Russell/Fell terrier cross just over 17 years ago – we still miss him and his ‘feisty fun’.
thanks Kim and for the chance to elegise her with your prompt
You’re most welcome, Laura.
So sorry, but she got a good place to retire at least… but it must hurt a lot.
indeed Bjorn – only 1 week gone and it feels so long
Laura, condolences on Rosie. You helped give her a good end, which is more than many get. {{{HUGS}}}
I still miss my Chaun, a Boston Terrier who also had that “Jackness” to him. He passed in 2016.
thanks Li – gone but never forgotten and there is comfort knowing she still enjoyed her life almost to the very end
❤
Beauty in an eulogy….words sometimes are worth their weight..
how right you are Ain – we know their value
Most retirement villages do not allow pets. It’s so cruel. Animals are wider than we know though. Love isn’t lost.
*wiser
luckily I do not live with such constraints though retired
awww, rosie … sniff, sniff. beautiful tribute! thank you for rescuing her and making her last year of life safe and loved. ❤
thank you Pink – she had her ways of showing gratitude too
the permanence of impermanence…(K)
wise words indeed Kerfe
So very sad…
thank you – yes indeed
A sad but beautiful poem, Laura. It is sad to lose such a good friend. So sorry for you loss.
thanks Dwight – the ‘engrave’ prompt was timely
You are welcome. Yes it was…
It is so gutting when they must leave us. I always find that I love my dogs even more when they become old. Such dear friends.
old and uncomplaining – I try to follow suit
Animal rescues bring with them an immediate sense of responsibility; like you saved a creature that truly needs you. As Rosie did. A lovely quadrille, Laura.
thank you for that Helen and noticing the poem!
So sorry for your loss. Rosie sounds like a good companion.
Pat
many thanks Pat
I’m so sorry for your loss, Laura. It’s so hard to lose our furry companions. A lovely elegy. 💙
many thanks Merril – I seem to have lost the Muse too for now
Understandable Laura, and you’re welcome.
I’m sorry you lost your baby. Such a poignant quadrille!
thank you for your appreciation of the quadrille too
I know that feeling so well. I have a collection of those little discs bearing the names of my sweet dogs that gave me their companionship over the years. All loved and lost but forever in the heart. I am so sorry for your loss of Rosie 😢💔
thank you Christine – here we can’t engrave their names in case the dogs are stolen as only the owner knows what name to call it with!
This tapped a nerve, our older dog is soon to be 14 and is not well, I sense the tragedy of grief in this, the hole.
yes Paul – knowing it’s coming we still can never prepare for that emptiness
Even one year is enough for them to engrave themselves in our hearts. I feel your pain.
thank you Dora – for your words so true
