Who among us does not love the Spring, the begin again that culminates in the fulsome summer. But just before the overt onset of leaf and flower, I like to savour a last look at trees in all their sculpted nudity, or just as they prepare for another year.

“All the complicated details
of the attiring and
the disattiring are completed!
…Thus having prepared their buds
against a sure winter
the wise trees
stand sleeping in the cold.”
Williams Carlos Williams

“Among the reddest flowers of spring,
Amidst the trembling trees,..
Spring and all its vibrant glory,
Renews the weary soul.
As nature’s symphony unfolds,
Each tree plays a role.”
Williams Carlos Williams.

Epitaph: Neil Reid
Many of us are taking voluntary leave of the blogosphere so when one goes missing I barely blink. How sad though to only discover today that Neil’s absence is permanent – he died in December 2024. I will always be thankful for his encouraging remarks and the free flow style of his poetry. Bridgette has set up a comments page: Saying Goodbye
“when a tree in the forest falls, the forest feels it fall. relationship.
relationship holds us to its breast. be at ease I inform myself.
and sleep becomes the mirror image of that breath.”

…much enjoyed his comments at your site.
yes Neil left many thoughtful comments and question
Spring is very different in the northern hemisphere to here in South Africa. Our spring explodes and many flowers appear almost overnight. It just goes from cool to very hot in a few days.
I’m so glad our Spring takes its time
I’m so sorry to hear about Neil. He always had a way of making me see something new. (K)
yes Kerfe – his view was often quite unique and I miss his input
