Never the best time to take shots unless you are Gary Cooper but since its a time of dark shadows and bright highlights, taking high contrast photos goes with the flow, as it were. And renders a dramatic negative space in the dahlia’s green-purple foliage (above).


In fact, images with midday sun lend themselves really well to black and white.


Out in the garden with the Ricoh GRiii set to high contrast Black and White it was one way of cooling the effect, zapping the textures and giving emphasis to lines and shapes



That dahlia and hollyhock leaf work well. And I am very fond of lines and shadows in black and white.
