The fire in the grate’s been fed. Candle wax, torn gift wrap and parched wreaths signal with smoke that Christmas has truly passed.
And the old year will die down in the ashes
but here in the corner, our table awaits. Another year and …
our hopes such as they are
invisible before us
untouched and still possible
