Each blog anniversary reminds me that I took up the camera as substitute for cigarettes – it helped me in the short term. I suppose I began to think about taking photography more seriously, amateurish but learning and improving but now I rest on my laurels such as they are, content to make do with the limits of my talent in a snap happy way.
My goto camera is the pocketable Ricoh GRiii, a sometime outing with a Lumix G6, iPhone 14 and more rarely a Canon EOS SD [click for closer views]
My brother-in-law SB was a professional photographer and having lost much of his sight, he gave me all his camera equipment in March 2024 including his Canon EOS. This photo is one I took when he first showed me how to use his camera – it is the family cat, an old boy, one of Israel’s stray kittens that found a home.

Sadly SB died last night after a long illness so I dedicate this post to a true photographer
S. Burton 1938-2026 with thanks all for his encouragement as right up to the last he followed this blog, and with strong magnifying lenses could just about make out my latest photo post.
