Solstice song

"So the shortest day came, and the year died,
And everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world
Came people singing, dancing,
To drive the dark away.
They lighted candles in the winter trees;
They hung their homes with evergreen;
They burned beseeching fires all night long
To keep the year alive,
And when the new yearโ€™s sunshine blazed awake
They shouted, revelling.
Through all the frosty ages you can hear them
Echoing behind usโ€”Listen!!
All the long echoes sing the same delight,
This shortest day,
As promise wakens in the sleeping land:
They carol, feast, give thanks,
And dearly love their friends,
And hope for peace.
And so do we, here, now,
This year and every year.
Welcome Yule!"

  1. Fabulous. Happy winter season to you too and I am looking forward to seeing your garden progress in the new year.

  2. Maybe akin to the words here shared, your images don’t so much capture as they do reveal in a very personal way. I think I already know this is how you see, but each time again I greet your offerings in wonder renewed. You are a gift.

    Merry Christmas, heartfelt. neil

    1. I do so appreciate your comments Neil not least because of the unique and generous way you phrase them- sending you Christmas greetings and ‘see you’ in the New year…if not before!

  3. Some of these look familiar ๐Ÿ˜‰. Always love to see how we take pics of the same things and they turn out quite different.
