Ruminations mulled like wine for meanings

the poetry book agape and Sister Agnes speaking in tongues
closer to God. Distant as the nearest star
she stood on a moon, reflected out of bright blue skies

think of a summer's day by all means
a long escape ladder for the elephant trap
hammered two feet down in earth

to the other side, to those who have passed over
well-worn walking sticks in hand
and so they push up inquisitively after the daffs

alongside her lost-and-found dirge
setting sail for consciousness
in this oven of a high summer noon

like struggling kites, each lifts and falls
over the heads of Calla lilies
colours running down, bleed into the street.

  1. Laura, I am surprised these are from separate poems; they meld well together. Congrats on the book. Is there a link to buy it?

        1. yes I did two – last lines and first lines so this time it was a random line pick across the poems I’m collating – your 2024 idea is a great way of rounding up the year

  2. You made this seem effortless, though I doubt it was. I am fascinated with your line choices and how you created something Brand New.

  3. I continue to be blown away by the poems I’ve read tonight, and inspired to try the many different forms I’ve seen, including this found poem from among your treasure chest. This is a multi-faceted jewel!

    1. your comment is spot on – we share poetry with some very talented poets. Thank you for the ‘multifaced jewel’ comment – its a great description of found poetry

  4. I love creating poems fro found lines, especially from our own poems, and your ruminations mulled like wine for meanings are an inspiration to create some more, Laura. I especially love the final lines.

  5. I just went to a funeral and this really fits. It brought me there but also took me to unexpected places.

  6. Like mulled wine, this goes smoothly and had you not mentioned these are found lines, it had touched of that lovely surreal poem you wrote a while ago. Always learning something from you. Happy holidays, Laura.

    1. yes indeed – ‘found poetry’ does have that surreal element as an amalgam of different sources can only every be tangentially connected. Thank you for all your visits and inputs – enjoy the holidays until we gather our Muses back in January
