Time and time again I think about self-publishing some of my poems. I’ve only done so once after Martin died, a collection of very early poems 2015-2016 which literally were my ‘Jumping Off Point‘
Recently I’ve felt enthusiastic about another print collection. However, with all the trawling back through the dust of the years and then between the deciding and the discarding, followed by the editing I’m soon wearied and the project peters out.
I’m grateful though to my daughter who has been encouraging me lately so that the back burner is still alight.
Also since WordPress has begun ‘on this day‘ notifications of past posts it is becoming easier to pick past poems for print depending on how I like/relate to them on a fresh re-read. Here’s Ties, written as a 44 word quadrille on this day 2024:
My grandmother saved twine.
After the lean years of war
she knew its worth
as fastener for paper parcels,
crackly brown, or propping
tall chrysanthemums
before the battering storms.
Clematis clambered
and string beans ran their course
along such lines. I miss her still.
