A dash of pebble

Between a granule and a cobble, and chipped from the hybridised mineral formation of clastic rocks, pebbles thus come in many colours to catch the magpie eye of the beachcomber cum wishful geologist, such as myself.

Shaped smooth by the seas’ rolling waves, those of the tidal river keep their chip-off-the-block edges much longer and thus colour and geometry combine to entice the beholder.

Away from the miscellany of the shingle strand, pebbles lose some of their magical glamour, rather like seaweed hung out to dry. Nevertheless I shall probably always scour and scrutinise the foreshore for that extra special keepsake – or even for that pebbledash photo opportunity!
