Wet and Dry

A light exists in spring

Sodden fields, clay that clings tenaciously to boots but at the end of another mostly wet winter, some sunshine with a little warmth in it.

I crossed the boggy ground by the brook, drawn to the lines of the reeds’ silvery seedheads (though in the bright light I could barely see the images on the camera’s LED screen and the wind kept moving them out of focus!)

Further afield, acres of dry, rustling Elephant Grass. Technically Miscanthus giganteus, this was once a garden ornamental but is now one of the new biomass crops seen in some of our arable fields.

Ecologically and environmentally beneficial. Miscanthus creates excellent cover for native wildlife whilst also able to capture and store carbon. Used as an alternative to straw for animal bedding and strawberry agriculture etc as well as a biofuel.

Out and about with my battered and aged Ricoh CX3. Never mind the quality, the ease of my pocketable point-and-shoot camera has its own merits.

    1. Enjoy your new one Diana – what have you got?
      I used to use my LED screen on Panasonic DSLR to view the necessary changes but since it ceased working, relying on just the eye piece is a struggle with my vision, and so I think I’ll leave it to do the indoor or stationary shots and keep Ricoh on the move (until my budget stretches to a Fujifilm I have my other eye on!!).

        It has an eye viewfinder, but I wear multifocal sunglasses when hiking so not sure if or how that could work for me. I am also used to the touchscreen (and this one tilts, which helps against sunglare and my creaky angles)

  2. Great reflection of the barn in that puddle! I must confess that I use my phone far more than my camera at the moment. Easy to slide into the pocket.

    1. I was pleased with the barn shot and am always struck by how far a puddle reflection is from the source.
      I used to use my iPhone on the go too but with all this intrusive data collecting I now leave it at home and out has come my Ricoh which does not have a clue as to where I’ve been!!
