In Recovery

We came from all directions
a caravan of tatters
burdened by broken bodies

To the uninitiated, this passage
of peoples surely as random as a rout
a seasonal ritual or word-of-mouth pilgrimage
perhaps to hear a prophet speak
of reasons and unfathomable answers

Some of us left there
bewildered by the pitiless nature of affliction
and the core of humanity that smoulders
in such fevered ashes

Following a hospital inpatient stint with pneumonia, “In recovery” is a poem I wrote “on this very date in a previous year” – re-published here for Fandango’s Flashback Friday

feedback is food for thought....
