It’s been a while since I posted any arty Zenbrush3 (see Spot the difference) though I’ve been using the app frequently and experimenting with various outcomes including the juxtaposition of curve and line with mirroring. That in itself seemed to warrant something else and since red is often an accent colour in Japanese art, I added these dots and a silver paper which enlivened the drawing to such an extent that I now visualize them as a pair of birds in courtship flight.
Of course we all see things differently but face pareidolia is quite common and according to Gestalt theory we are always trying to make sense of what we see in terms of recognition. In fact there’s a region of the brain dedicated to spotting faces called the fusiform gyrus – hence I call these FusiForms!
Thus in rotating the left hand picture to the horizontal I visualized a small animal – just asking for an eye addition.
One of the most joyous forms of line drawing, scribbling allows absolute freedom to keep repeating elements of your drawing and positively encourages speed in the execution. It is probably the most natural of line drawings – line art techniques
I let the forms emerge whether in freeform scribble or more deliberate line formation – either way it keeps a sense of fun
Intriguingly the thick red paint curves in their various rotations garnered more movement once the dots were added
and this ‘conversation piece’ is a favourite
But just to prove it does not always warrant dotting in an eye, this lined art, which I see taking the form of a lizard loses something of its cachet with that eye. Perhaps it requires a slit instead of dot. I shall work on it.
Photoshop Friday: and having some fun with edits and apps – and adding these FusiForms to the DigiPix Gallery
I like the pieces, but especially the negative spaces the lines create.
Bravo Paul for looking there – the other half of the image
I love these, Laura. I was playing with a bamboo brush and Sumi ink for a while, and now I want to get those out again and see what materializes.
I do hope you do Robin and I look forward to seeing some of your work – this is the nearest I can get to that art
I like the shadow lines on some of these… gives the impression of depth.
thanks Charley – like our shadow selves too?
Very much so.
I really like this exploration. The green especially–so organic. Interestingly, I don’t see eyes at all. They are like exclamation points, little self-contained worlds in juxtaposition to the journey of the lines. (K)
your perspective is fascinating and so poetic ❤
Painted lines are very poetic.
Fascinating (almost mesmerizing, actually) and very beautiful, Laura!

thank you David - that is so encouraging
