“Pulvis et umbra sumus”
It's said we live like shadows
on a screen. Mesmerised.
Dark, flat forms
skin grafted
shape shifters
night crawlers
dancing, prancing
to a hedonistic tune
Unseeing
never pondering a source
the switch is flicked
the curtain's torn
and we are nothing more
just dusty shrouds
Just 44 words for Lisa’s Quadrille prompt word: Screen. Epigraph from Horace:”We are but dust and shadow”
A enjoyed your creepy shadow play, Laura, and felt a chill when I read about the shape shifters and crawlers dancing and prancing.
that is us, methinks!
Laura, like Kim, I felt a chill while reading your poem. I recently went to the local art museum and saw an exhibit on female animators. Your poem reminded me of one of the first types of animation, silhouette animation.
yes this is how we can be seen! (your TV is yet another layer!)
yes!
Destiny, philosophy…like this very much, spurring thought, mine at least. When I read 2nd time saw more, the horror, and that made it all the more hard-hitting.
