I wish there was a Halloween grinch to steal all the jack o’ lanterns grimacing, the tacky ghoul ghost costumes and stop children trick or treating from door to door. Personally I prefer to treat the day with its religious overtones and light candles in remembrance of all the departed souls I’ve loved as well as some birthday cake candles for a daughter. Yes the church stole the date from the Celtic Samhain but a belief in spirits passing through this world on their way to the summerlands is a far cry from the spoof on spooky that is commercial Halloween.

I could not agree more! It is just one more example of tacky consumerism.
indeed – yuk!
At least it is pouring with rain tonight, here on the wild west coast, so no little neighbours ‘trick or treating’.
Time for a supper for a friend, a driftwood fire and maybe even a film…
sounds just right!
I agree. That’s a beautiful, very atmospheric, image.
some artifice in that photo Robin – smoke from a neighbouring bonfire but I guess that is the artifice of Halloween too 😉
