it's all wrapped up
this birth, budding
in secret corridors
swollen fallopians
bellies blossoming
sakura of soft pink
skin-creased sorrows
fall in a fruity flush
fleshed out to rot
annular imperfection
ring cycle of an ovoid
is egg, yoked to hope
Easter's iconic trope
Joining Kim’s quadrille in which 44 words surround a timely, festive Egg
A wonderful foray into the story of Eostre.
thank you for this clever play on words Paul that completely passed me by when I wrote this i.e. can hear oestrus too
Love the alliteration… and the sense of birth in that egg…
a mish-mash of spring birth – thanks Bjorn
Very apt. Easter is an overused trope. The picture’s quite lovely too
supposedly derives from the goddess of Spring but am not sure that the hope thatit brings can ever be overused!
The resurrection always brings hope
indeed – Hallelujah!
Amen!
p.s. the image is one I created some years ago and just found it nestling on my hard drive!
“bellies blossoming sakura of soft pink”… sigh.. such a gorgeous, gorgeous write!💖
Thank you Sanaa
Wow, Laura, this is such a rich egg, full of imagery! I especially enjoyed: ‘budding in secret corridors’ and the sibilance and alliteration in:
‘sakura of soft pink
skin-creased sorrows
fall in a fruity flush’.
The end couplet is perfect.
And thank you for the prompt – had fun whipping this one up
They don’t come much more fecund than this poem! Loved it 🙂
Spring has rather stirred my moribund imagination into something more fecund! Lovely words – thank you Jane
There’s a lot of death in spring too, to balance the surge in new life. Maybe you shouldn’t dig too deeply 🙂
well said Jane – renewal follows decay which follows etc – hence my annular!
🙂
I like the egg described as “annular imperfection”.
Annular a new one for me
thanks Frank – its that imperfection I think that creates the cycle – maybe life is striving for the perfection it will never reach?!
I like this very much. The secret world of fertility, so visceral and complex. Great picture, too.
Thank you Sarah – this one was led by the picture
Now that was fun to recite…vivid images created by…
‘it’s all wrapped up
this birth, budding
in secret corridors
swollen fallopians
bellies blossoming
sakura of soft pink’
Glad to hear Donna that it gave voice – many thanks for reading
This is wonderful – it was a pleasure to read!
thanks Jo – (you seem to have found me via Facebook?)
I never thought of it this way. Enjoyed your take!
neither did I Bekkie until I started the poem 😉
That’s what I love about writing!
I admire the birthing of spring, specially sakura of soft pink!
pink as babies and blossom 🙂
Nice take on this prompt. Thanks for sharing.
❤
Lovely egg-shaped image of pink sakura led to a poem beautifully birthed!
lovely comment lynn – thank you
The image is gorgeous. The poem with is paean to spring is perfection.
love that word ‘paean’ – thank you!
yoked to hope…..love this line
my favourite too – thanks for noticing
Yes! I’m all about spring fertility and birth poems and yours is so rich in words and motion. The image is beautiful, too.
interesting how you picked up on the motion which is hidden within and by the egg
Loved how you created the imagery. Birth waiting in egg !
And, how the spring brings in hope and makes us alive 🙂
yes it is that coming back to life feeling so resonant of Spring – and Easter
Love the image…….love the birthing images within the words. I always love spring….when winter disappears and heavy winter coats disappear on the streets and suddenly there are women with swollen bellies whose pregnancies had been hidden by that cold season’s wear 🙂
still hanging on to coats with the return of some chill for Easter but regardless the birth of the year is here coupled with a death and resurrection
The image and your write are so beautiful. Love that pink, pink, pink!
the flush of youth 🙂
I especially like this…..
“it’s all wrapped up
this birth, budding
in secret corridors”
New growth transpiring behind closed doors that we perhaps take for granted.
well observed and understood Mish – you have the heart of a poet!!
Quite splendidly done!
many thanks Misky
