Tenderness should not be torn
although you ripped though my letters
as if full of flimsy
Strong bonds are almost never broken
unlike the strings of our guitars
those nights we harmonised
Devotion does not vanish, all of a sudden
the way you puddle-jumped your way
out of my life that night
And with my tears not even hidden
in the rain, mascara run
without your umbrella
Your love kept me so full
of hunger, subsisting on mouthfuls
from impetuous feasts
You and I are omitted, lost in the spaces
an in-between of many treasured memories

For Sanaa’s OLN prompt where anything goes as long as it’s poetry. For added inspiration she offered us a quote from Edna St Vincent Millay: “Love is not all: it is not meat nor drink nor slumber nor a roof against the rain.” as well as this Photo: ‘Moody urban night scene with umbrella’ by Josh Hild, Pexels.
